What is Eleuthero Root Extract?

Siberian ginseng is a globally recognized plant that grows in mountain thickets throughout Japan, China, Korea, and Russia. More commonly referred to as eleuthero, the root has been utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as Korean and Russian folk herbalism for centuries. Eleuthero root extract is considered energetically warming and is famous as an adaptogen. Our eleuthero powder is ground from organic Eleutherococcus senticosus roots. Eleuthero root powder can be extracted or encapsulated.

Eleuthero extract is best known as being an adaptogen and has been part of the herbal repertoire in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It was also used in Korean and Russian folk medicine, not only for increasing stamina but for promoting overall health. Russian researchers brought attention to this impressive root in the 1960's at which point its fame spread to the West. It can now be found lining the shelves in most health food stores in North America.

The Eleutherococcus genus contains over 30 species, some of which are grown ornamentally in the West. E. senticosus is a shrub growing from three to fifteen feet in height, with palmate leaves, and stems that are covered with bristles. It is an understory shrub occurring in mountain thickets and sparse forests up to around 2,500 feet in elevation, and is native to Japan, China, Korea, and the Far East of Russia. Eleuthero is a member of the ginseng or Araliaceae family alongside the famous American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) and other relatives such as (Aralia spinosa) or Devil's walkingstick. The Chinese refer to eleuthero by its older name, Acanthopanax senticosus, which is how it is listed in many Chinese herbal formulas.

Eleuthero Root Benefits

Eleuthero Root Extract Benefits:

1.Eleuthero, immune function, and resisting disease

Supplementing with eleuthero root extract boosted immune function in mice both before and during illness.[1] Researchers also measured immune-boosting effects in human cancer patients and in healthy controls. One study showed eleuthero’s potential to maintain healthy T4 lymphocytes, the specific immune cells that drop as a result of HIV and AIDS.

In addition to its potential to enhance immunity, eleuthero may weaken pathogens that make their way into your body. Researchers measured anti-viral activity of eleuthero — it inhibited virus cell replication in cell cultures. In combination with andrographis (another herbal supplement), eleuthero was measurably effective as a treatment for the common cold. It shows strong antioxidant activity, which can help you recover more quickly if you do come down with something.

2.Eleuthero helps you respond better to stress

Siberian eleuthero extract is an adaptogen, which means it’s a generally well-tolerated herb that mediates the stress response. Supplementing with eleuthero supports adrenal gland function, the gland that is responsible for cortisol and other stress hormones, when you experience stress.

3.Neurological and mental benefits of eleuthero

Researchers found that compounds in eleuthero root extract improved learning and memory in elderly rats, likely because it helps the body recycle choline and synthesize more acetylcholine in the hippocampus. It also increased mental sharpness in a similar way coffee does, without the caffeine crash that typically comes later if you didn’t blend it with grass-fed butter and Brain Octane Oil.

4.Eleuthero may improve endurance

Preliminary evidence shows that eleuthero may help reduce fatigue and increase endurance. In an animal study, supplementing with eleuthero lengthened the time mice spent performing a swim test and other endurance tests. In another study, mice didn’t show the normal behavioral alterations from sleep deprivations that researchers usually see.

5.Eleuthero may protect DNA

Several in vitro studies point to the potential protective effects of eleuthero on DNA. Treating bacterial cultures with eleuthero root extract prevented alterations in DNA.

Similarly, researchers cultured cells and treated them with radiation, to find that the ones they treated with eleuthero compounds were more resistant to radiation. A test tube study of mammalian cells showed that eleuthero protects the body from ionizing radiation exposure.

6.Eleuthero and blood sugar

Animal studies indicate that eleuthero might have an effect on blood glucose and the insulin response. Eleuthero extract effectively regulated blood sugar in diabetic mice. Effects are likely due to improved insulin signaling and glucose utilization.

7.The effects of eleuthero on cancer

Preliminary research shows the possibility of eleuthero as an adjunct treatment for cancer. Siberian eleuthero extract showed antitumor effects on human stomach cancer cell cultures. inhibited the proliferation of several lung, colon and breast cancer strains.
